I started with a search from all the places on the internet where you can purchase vintage and antique bits. I found this old matchbook from The Seaport Inn and the image on it was PERFECT for what I had envisioned, so the design started with that piece. I cut the image and built a bezel from raw copper as well as a backplate on which to solder it. Once it was soldered, I attached the image and poured epoxy resin over it to seal it and give it a shine. In the resin, I added a vintage button that represents the moon at night when Brandy walks the streets of the silent town. I deconstructed some old jewelry and made the little corner ornaments to attach to the backplate. Drilling three holes allowed me to hang copper chains that hold charms, shells, and coral beads that help tell the story, but the star of the show is the “silver locket that bears the name of the man that Brandy loves.” I named him Eamon Pierce (with help from my friends on Facebook!) and I found an antique image of a man that looks like what I imagined. It all hangs from a “braided chain” that’s made of sterling silver and measures 24” in length. The entire focal piece measures 5” in length and is 2” wide. This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece that can never be replicated. It’s signed on the back of the copper backplate.
