I actually dream of projects to make sometimes at night when I'm sleeping, and this is one of those projects! I was digging around out in the workshop looking to find the place where a little bird was making her nest yesterday and I came across a bucket of shell casings from our son's target shooting. How could I recycle them? I guess I went to sleep thinking about that and I've been working with a lot of pearls lately, so this just popped into my mind. I went straight to work making it this afternoon. It's one of my favorite pieces ever; I love so many things about it-the edgy quality, both in the idea of the bullets (gunshot residue included!) and the look of the hammered metal, the dichotomy of the bullets and pearls, and just the overall look of the piece. I know this is going to be the perfect statement piece for some lady who appreciates all of these characteristics as much as I do! As always, it's made with mixed metals (to include gunmetal eyelets!) and it's strung on a 30" polished black leather cord. #edgyjewelry #bullets #pearls
My jewelry pieces are all one-of-a-kind, mostly made from recycled bits and pieces. My style is a bit edgy and I like to play with mixed metals so that they can be worn with many different companion pieces. You will notice that my embossed printing is a little wonky-this is intentional-it's all part of my style. I also celebrate imperfections found on some of these old objects, as they are scars that detail part of their history. I do like to go an extra step to finish my pieces with nice details, like eyelets in the drilled holes. Most smashed spoon pieces just have drilled holes...I like the more finished and refined look the eyelet gives and it's an opportunity to add another color of metal.
On the smashed spoon necklaces, you will see each item marked " Extra Large," "Large," "Medium," or "Small." These labels are referring to the bowl size of the vintage or antique spoon that was used. Larger ladies usually prefer the larger pieces, whereas the small ones can look nice on a lady of any size or age, to include young girls.
Most are strung on black or brown polished leather.
The "Special Collection" and "Mermaid" pieces still have the look that my pieces are known for but will have a really unusual, rare, or extra element. They're a little fancier than the regular smashed spoon pieces.
My copper and sterling silver pieces are all made entirely by hand from raw metals.
